Reshoring – A risk worth taking?
Emilia Ashton evaluated whether reshoring, which was a growing trend even before the pandemic, is worth the risks associated with it. The examples of risks she used include a company having to start from scratch, higher labor costs and dealing with unskilled workers. She highlighted that although reshoring can bring many benefits to a business, such as reduced lead times, fewer import tariffs and higher quality products, firms need to assess whether this is the right strategic decision for them. Emilia also emphasized the importance of resilience in supply chains, and provided suggestions on how companies can improve this, such as shortening and simplifying supply chains and multi-sourcing.

The machine learning trap or how to tell if you’ve got the right waiter
In this article, Kai Keppner talked about how machine learning is vital for a company to progress, as well as outlining the different methods used to help achieve goals. Kai used an example from a friend where AI was used for solving problems in a company, despite this not being necessary. This highlighted that the path to success should go via the customer’s need, and the method to get there comes second to this. Kai also illustrated a point with the example of a restaurant: a good restaurant adapts to its customers, just like AI should.
