Rosy outlook for flower industry
Over the last seven years, the cut-flower industry has blossomed and has been enjoying yearly growth. Nevertheless, every rose has its thorn and the flower industry is no exception with as much of 20% of stock becoming waste as a direct consequence of poor supply chain management. However, this is all set to change as the supply chain shifts from a pull to a push model.
According to a report featured in the load star magazine this week, retailers are driving radical changes to distribution channels and transportation methods in order to gain greater efficiencies. UK, Swiss and Scandinavian retailers have already adopted this new model with other nations expected to follow suit in the near future.

Yum! suppliers being chopped
In January, Yum! brands came under tough scrutiny from the Shanghai food and drug association regarding food safety violations. Following a 6% drop in sales, it seems the scandal has left KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell customers with a sour taste. However, Yum! has now announced radical action to amend international supply chain issues in the hope improvements will once again whet customer’s appetite for fast-food products. According to a report this week, the fast food giant has already given 1000 suppliers the cut with additional plans to improve collaboration across the entire network.

Is Apple planning to release a “budget iPhone?”
The infamous apple “supply chain leak” strikes again as the newest rumor points to a more affordable iPhone. This time the “leak” comes from a source in Japan and it points toward a new iPhone with a 4.5 inch display and a polycarbonate build. The phone would be thicker than the iPhone 5 but would have all the standard iPhone features including the home button located below the touch-screen. The “leak” is apparently so specific that even a price point has been hinted upon: this “affordable” iPhone is said to cost approximately $330. I personally am quite skeptical, but in general, these “leaks” keep Apple in the press and always prove to be great discussion points.
