Whisky supply chain – more important than expected
The UK should thank the whisky supply chain for bringing in about £5bn to the economy. Moreover, about 30,000 people are working in the supply chain of Scotch whisky. It is the third biggest industry in Scotland, after energy and financial services. Recent research has found that whisky’s industry in the UK is bigger than iron, steel, shipbuilding, computer and textiles industries.

Tesco – collaborating their way up
After a number of scandals which damaged Tesco’s reputation and brand, the retailer chose collaboration with their suppliers as a way to rebuild customers’ trust. Tesco has launched an online interactive platform to improve collaboration with its suppliers. It will provide a forum for more than 5,000 suppliers from around the world to connect with Tesco and other suppliers in order to share ideas about how to improve their supply chains and products. The initiative was announced just a few days after Tesco was criticized for poor treatment of suppliers in a BBC Panorama documentary.

Breakthrough in packaging
Amcor Group recently introduced a breakthrough printing technology which can be used in a range of folding carton applications. The new process gives the packaging a highly reflective metallic effect and, as a result, vast design possibilities. The new technology called Sunshine, simplifies the supply chain and improves packing line performance. Moreover, the new gravure printing process helps reduce the carbon footprint, waste, water consumption and has a visual effect which provides a folding carton container a greater shelf presence.
