A central theme to the majority of material planning projects is the optimization of procurement planning which, when done correctly, can help solve the balancing act between low inventory levels and high availability.
One of my colleagues started a survey on Xing (a German social networking site) looking to collect the opinions of material planners and supply chain experts regarding the obstacles to successful procurement planning. I would like to extend the question to the wider public in English:

I was surprised by the results so far. It will be interested to see what the final results are! Personally, I see complex distribution channels as the biggest barrier to procurement success. Although I wonder whether this issue is specific only to my particular industry (automotive manufacturing)…
